I couldn't end the year without another of my 'gay rights' posts, and what a week this has been!
1) Don't Ask Don't Tell- Repealed!
The biggest story this week is of course the repeal of Don't Ask Don't Tell. For many years we have heard of this ludicrous and horrid policy existing in the US army, and today has finally marked the end to that with Obama officially signing the repeal. Since 1993, 13,500 LGB service members have been dismissed. Thank goodness there will be no more.
2) Civil Partnerships- 5 Years
The 21st December marked the 5 year anniversary since Civil Partnerships came into law. On the one hand, I cannot believe how fast time has flown by I could remember the first day of same-sex couples getting civil partners and what a great day that was. Whilst there is still a strong urge from the LGB community for full gay marriage, it truly is extraordinary that only just over 5 years ago same-sex couples had no legal ceremony in which to profess one another's love and life time commitment alongside laws that would protect them. Since that day 40, 000 have had a civil partnership. Many congratulations for those celebrating 5 years!
3) It Gets Better- Employers
Obviously I'm a big fan of this campaign, and there have been some brilliant videos from big organisations. I think such videos as these make a real stance and adds to the inclusivity of the campaign. Here's a select few:
4) It Gets Better... Today
Stonewall campaign has been gathering some high profile support, no less from our very own prime minister.
Check out their youtube to see messages from celebrities and other supporters.
5) Amber Heard
This isn't really 'big' news but I wanted to include it because, well lets face it, there really are not enough 'lipstick lesbians' out there as role models. So not only am I of course naturally excited that this up & coming Hollywood actress has come out, but I'm also glad that she is standing out there proud and sending out a message to all those young femme lesbians. I know when I was younger I really wanted someone to identify with and look up to!
Speaking of lesbian role models, my mind goes to the gorgeous Portia De Rossi, where congratulations are due as she is now officially Mrs. Degenerous! I think it's so lovely she has changed her name.
6) 'It Just A Phase'
Lastly, I've included a video by the wonderful Jenna who I posted a while back. This video is another one worthwhile of your time on youtube, she highlights and discusses exactly why 'it's just a phase' is so annoying and how the comment 'you're too pretty to be a lesbian' is truly irritating, and not to mention insulting. Both I have received...a lot. The first in my younger years and the latter in my later years, and surprisingly a lot of the time from gay men!

Before this year rounds up (where has the year gone?!) we thought we'd treat you to one last blog update about what we we've been up to in our lives since we departed in the beginning of November.
What Megan Did Next:
Well the snow has decided to descend upon the UK like never before. I have truly never witnessed so much snow in my life! I used to always dream of having a White Christmas when I was younger and never got it.. so I guess this is the years accumulation!
Besides the joys of working (sigh) I have managed to have a few exciting weekends.
Firstly, my boss treated our team to lunch at the Ritz in London which was an amazing experience and I had never been there before. It is truly stunning & exquisite inside, and the Christmas decorations just made it even that more special.
We also say the play Onassis that evening and had a bit of a shop the next day. My sister & I popped round to our cousins celebrate her recent engagement to her lovely boyfriend (SO HAPPY!!!)
It was my sisters 22nd birthday (I'm 23) on 10th December, so I went home for the weekend for a little celebration with family & friends.
There have of course been a couple of Christmas doo's from work! We all did a very good job of refraining from drinking too much alcohol!
Lastly, just this weekend I attended a truly winter wonderland wedding of Emma & Luke. Like Wegan, Emma & Luke have been doing long distance and Luke is in fact an American (Southern too!) So it brings us much joy to see them work out and commit to spending their lives together <3 style="text-align: center;">
It was a truly wonderful day, and the heavy snow fall just added to it! We did however get stuck 3 times in the car on the way to the reception- pictre 3 girls in dresses & boots trying to push a car- hilarious!! Some men came to our rescue ;)
I can't believe Christmas is a mere few days away. I am working right up until Christmas Eve, but we close at 1pm. I just hope that the snow doesn't prevent me leaving Wales to get home to London!!
Just can't wait to be home with the family all nice & cosy.. & happy! & knowing Whit will be shortly in my arms <3
So with that...
What Whitney Did Next:
It’s Whitney here, reporting live from South Carolina! Man, time suuuure is flying by. I cannot believe how fast time has gone by since we last updated you guys- Thanskgiving has come and gone, finals have been taken and it is ALMOST CHRISTMAS!!! Where oh where has this year gone? However, I am VERY excited to be off to the UK to spend New Years with my baby!!!! 6 DAYS!
With that being said, let me now tell you a bit more about my Thanksgiving, my horrid finals and where I presently am- home <3
Soon after my Megan left me I had a pre Thanksgiving celebration hosted by one of my best friends in Hawaii. She wanted to do it early as it was the only time we could all be together due to plans conflicting on actual Thanksgiving. As I said, it was hosted at my friends house, but was co-hosted by one of my other besties who is the MOST DOMESTICATED person I’ve ever met. Move over Martha Stewart! So, you could only imagine how amazing our turkey dinner was and how cute and festive all the décor was creatively laid out. It was just what I needed as I was feeling rather sad about my baby being back to her UK life.
On the actual day of Thanksgiving I was lucky enough to attend my cousins Thanksgiving celebration with her house mates. It was so nice to be able to share it with at least one family member as my family were all in KY/TN/SC. We had lots of yummy food and I hate so much I felt I was about to pop…true thanksgiving style!
Ooooh the dreaded time finally came for me to have to take my finals…and pass them! I was challenged with two very difficult courses, the first being a research methods class, where I had to do my senior thesis proposal and a bunch of other course work. The second one was Astrononmy, which was the hardest class I have ever taken! Sooooooooooooo hard!!! I studied for hours and hours and hours, so lets keep your fingers crossed for me that I at least passed…kk?! I will know my results on December 22.
I was so eager to come home that I left Hawaii the day of my last final! Wahoo! My home has always been Kentucky, but my mother has recently relocated to South Carolina for a job promotion. So this is another place I can now call home. It feels like home too! I love being back on the mainland, being in the cold, busting out the winter attire and just being able to snuggle up and sip hot apple cider and coffee is SO NICE! My mom and I are really close so it is great to be able to spend some time with her. On the 23rd my mom and I are off to Kentucky to spend xmas eve and xmas day with my aunt and all of my cousins. Going to be a big family Christmas affair and I’m so excited! Also, my best friend Sarah is going to be spending Christmas with us and we are picking her up in Tennessee en route to KY! And also get to see my other bestie, Seth. I have known these two for my entire life and cannot wait to see them. So I have Christmas, family, friends, and seeing my girl so soon….life is good right now!

Obviously on here we blog a lot about what we've been up to, but you may be wondering- what does the future for Wegan hold? Well here's what's coming up in Wegan World...
1) Whitney is visiting for the Christmas holidays! Unfortunately she won't be spending Xmas day with us like last year, but she sets off on 26th December & she arrives on 27th December! EEE! Can't wait to be all festive & cosy. & of course, mistle toe kisses! We have some plans to go on a double date with my sister and her boyfriend by going to Winter Wonderland in London. Wegan skating? Oh dear, let's hope we don't break anything! (Especially my Dolce & Gabbana glasses.. think I may wear contacts haha). We're also hoping to go to the Ice Bar in London as never been there yet.
Plan for 2012:
2) Whitney is still studying at the University of Hawaii and she will (hopefully) be graduating in May 2011 (you can do it baby!!!) I'm hoping to go out to Hawaii for a little bit & witness my baby graduate! (Will also finally meet her father, eek! hehe)
3) Whitney will move to the UK!!!!!
Yes that's correct, Whitney is leaving her island (& American) days behind to move to be with me in the UK! We can't wait!!! At the moment I'm living in Cardiff (Wales) but as my family live near London, we'll be heading London way & getting our own Wegan flat! Can't wait for us to decorate it- lot's of Wegan pictures, hearts, London/ Paris/ Hawaiian influences! What a mix!
Well, we'll be living in the big scary world of work with both of us completing our education (finally!!!) Eventually next will come the cat! & of course one day marriage & children... but we've got a few years to go just yet! (& if you're wondering.. I'm going to be doing the proposing!)
So in a nutshell that is Wegan's immediate, near and far off future plans!
What do you think?
Only 20 days until reunited!

First to be featured is a lovely couple who I enjoy reading about in their blog Wife and Wife. As you can guess, they are married (hurray!) and like us they first met online. So for all those out there who think they can't find love on the internet, or those who have found love in cyberspace but are yet to meet, listen up. Here is their story, living life as best friends & wife and wife:
Yang and I met online about 5 years ago. Wow can you believe it was actually before the time of myspace and facebook where people actually used chatrooms *gasp*! But anyway I had just gone through a terrible breakup and the last thing I was looking for was a girlfriend but that all changed when I met Yang. She sent me a message on blackplanet just wanting to be friends we sent a few notes back and forth and after never being online at the same time she asked to exchange numbers. I had no intention of calling lol but she decided to call me one night and we talked everyday there after. After about two weeks of talking non-stop Yang asked if my feelings about not wanting a girlfriend had changed and surprisingly they had unknowingly I had fallen for her. She asked me if I wanted to be her “girl” and I excitedly said yes.
About two weeks later I drove 3 hours to spend the weekend with her. This was our first time meeting in person and it was a really romantic weekend we went to dinner, walked on the beach and went shopping what more could a girl ask for!! A few weeks later Yang rode the greyhound bus to spend the weekend with me in Tampa. When it was time for her to go home I asked her to move in with me and about a month later she did. The day she moved in with me was our third time seeing each other in person and a few days after our 2 month dating anniversary so of course people thought we were crazy.
Everyone told us we needed to slow things down, get to know each other and not rush things but we didn’t agree. Five years later we’ve never broken up and are now happily married sometimes you just know when someone is right for you and I’m glad I knew she was the one for me.
