20,000 Subs on Youtube!!

Yesterday we reached 20,000 subscribers on Youtube!! We never knew that when we started our WWDN blog that we would also enjoy filming our lives and uploading it for all of you to see. We may not be reaching 1 millions subs like Sprinkle of Glitter achieved this week (wow- you go girl!) but we are extrememly grateful for any of you who follow us on our blog, twitter or youtube- or all of them! Now that we live together there is not the same amount of time to blog and edit videos but we hope to do more of it all in 2014!
Thanks to those who have followed us from the beginning or those of you who have just joined on our journey- welcome!

To celebrate reaching 20,000 subs we uploaded our video of when we met Bria & Chrissy back in September. As you can see from the video, it was some what of a crazy fun day in Windsor! It even includes a 'holding hands with strangers prank'- cringe worthy watching for sure!! It was great to meet these girls and we hope they come back soon!

We've been having the most wonderful Christmas with Whitney's mother here and we're just trying to spend some quality time all together- even though Whitney & I have come down with a stinking cold! Great timing!

Our beautiful mamma's on a walk in Windsor Great Park
We hope you had a wonderful Christmas, ya filthy animal!

Welcome to Christmas at Wegan Manor!

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas...

Christmas is fast approaching, it is our second Christmas living together and we can't believe there's less than a week to go! Whitney's mother is arriving on Christmas Eve so we're busy getting everything ready.

Here's a little preview of what Wegan Manor is looking this Christmas time:

We went for a Tiffany blue, silver & white theme this year.

We've had a little help from our friend, Kisses... if you call knocking all the baubles off the tree, chasing them around the house, knocking the branches out (we got a fake one for this year) and attacking the Christmas tree lights.. thanks Kisses. We love you so much though!

She is the cutest kitten in the world, you must check out this video we found of her a couple of months ago... TOO CUTE FOR WORDS!!

Last weekend we braved London to do some Christmas shopping and managed to cope with the mayhem and had a wonderful day out that ended in dinner at Nobu.

Happy wife... Happy life!

Whitney has always wanted to try the restaurant Nobu and we were completely unaware that it is in London- apparently there are two locations. We managed to get seating despite not having reservation as we simply discovered we were near it thanks to google maps! Whitney had the best spicy tuna sushi and tried wagyu beef for the first time. They were also pretty good for the veggies!

I went to Hanson recently with mothership on 9 December and just have to say it was an AWESOME concert- I wish everyone could see them live to realise how amazingly talented they are. It was just such a great concert, and they even ended with Christmas songs. If you don't listen to 'Snowed In' at Christmas then you're missing out!!

Sorry my iphone & camera sucks!!

We're trying to catch up with our videos on youtube so make sure you're subscribed to see what we got up to, even if it was a few months ago! ;)

Where are all the Young Femme Lesbians? We are Right Here!

Recently it was questioned as to where exactly are all the young femme lesbians? In her article for The Telegraph, Rhiannon Williams brought to mainstream the plight of lesbian visibility, in that we are coming out in an era of lesophobia. We appreciate that as a straight woman she is trying to highlight the troubles that lesbians, in particular those young and femme, go through in not being recognised for who we are. The lack of lesbian role models has always astounded me, especially when compared to the amount of famous gay men that one can easily count on both hands. If I ask my straight female friends to think of a famous femme lesbian, or any lesbian, they are quite simply stumped. It is true that in the straight and gay world, lesbians are somewhat the minority in numbers, and even more so if you are looking at those who are femme. We don't stand out; we're wearing lipstick, mascara and Chanel perfume whilst holding our wife's hand. Are we viewed as sisters, best friends... distant cousins? There is a great lack of recognition from the gay community, and great disbelief from the straight community. We suffer from femme invisibility and because of our feminine appearance, we are assumed to be straight.

There has, however, recently been an influx in the visibility of feminine lesbians. This isn't driven by famous women deciding to come out; this is coming from everyday lesbians living their lives loud and proud. What surprised me from Rhiannon William's article is how she quite simply missed where all the young femme lesbians are. We are right here. Just make sure you log onto YouTube. When I started my blog What Wegan Did Next to document my long distance relationship, I also hoped that by sharing our lives we would show other feminine lesbian that it's ok to be gay and still have high heels, oversized handbags and dreams of a walk in closet (except even bigger- to share your wife's clothes!) We have had the fortune of being able to touch and inspire the lives of some, but there are others out there doing it on a larger scale. Fellow American and British couple Kaelyn and Lucy also document their long distance relationship, and with over 100,000 subscribers on YouTube, their following is going strong. They too show that true love prevails all, and that it is ok to be feminine and gay. Through our online journey we have formed a friendship with these lovely ladies, as well as YouTube Guru Rose Ellen Dix, who has also gained a great following of over 100,000 subscribers from her hilarious personality. More than this, she has brought her beautiful girlfriend Rosie into her videos and they are also sharing their lives as a femme lesbian couple. The list is quite endless, with talented singing lesbian duo Bria and Chrissy, long distance lovers Cydney and Stacy and ford fiesta agents Daylnn and Angelica, to name but a few. No one has to make a big announcement to the world, we are simply living authentically and in doing so the profile of femme visibility is raised. Young girls can now see many other femme lesbians who have gone through the struggle of coming out and survived it. There is a happy ever after all, with your beautiful wife, white picket fence and all.

We still have a long way to go. As more and more everyday lesbians take a stand to be open and proud, I hope that women who are truly in the limelight and still trapped in the closet start to realise that they too should be living the same way. Growing up, I always longed for a famous feminine lesbian to come along and show me that I could live the life and have the wife that I always dreamed of. As Amelia Abraham rightly questioned in her recent article for The Guardian, where are all the 'celesbians'? We have had some celebrities take the plunge to live their lives open and proud, such as Chely Wright, Portia De Rossi and most recently Prisoners actress Mario Bello with her well received New York Times article. However it is sad that in todays age we can only list a mere few of openly out femme lesbians, when the list for famous gay men is endless with British Olympic diver Tom Daley coming out just this week. This is not good enough. I hope that more and more decide to embrace and be true to who they are, and if they're not going to do it- there are many of us out there who will.

We're Proud to be Femme. Are You?

Taylor Hanson- What Could Have Been...

You may or may not be aware that I’m a bit of a fan of Hanson.

At the age of 10 I discovered Hanson. In fact it was my mother who pointed them out to me. I immediately became (maybe a little bit) obsessed (not like my walls were covered in posters or anything). I listened to Hanson's 'Middle of Nowhere' on my casette player so much on repeat, that I think I actually wore it out. 'MMMbop', 'Where's the Love' and 'I Will Come to You' will always evoke memories of my childhood.. I will always be sadded to not discover, "where did Jonny go?!" (Yearbook reference, check your facts). I was forever scarred by my sisters as I sang along to Hanson WITH MY HEADPHONES ON completely out of tune and thus I was branded tone deaf the rest of my life and refused to sing... (I got a 2 out of 10 when I was forced to sing Happy Birthday for my music teacher at school.. I could have been great...)

My mother surprised me by taking me to my very first concert to see Hanson at the mere age of 11 years old. She had convinced me that I was too young to go see them, and I moaned all day at school how unfair it was that Hanson were breathing the same air and I could not be there. Later that day she picked me up from my ballet lesson and surprised me with tickets the show at Wembley Stadium. It was absoloutely amazing. I remember that Zac had glow in the dark drum sticks, apparently I asked my mum for permission to raise my hands in the air and it was also the highest decibel ever recorded concert. Because we were all little girls. And mothers.

My mother hoped (plotted, planned, who knows) that I would end up marrying Taylor Hanson. She thought I'd become an Olympic runner (I gave up running in my early teenage years, so sorry Mum..) and that I'd meet Hanson at some Olympic event and ta-da, the marriage bells would ring.

Well sorry mother, you got it half right. I did fall in love and marry someone with beautiful long blonde locks. Only their name is Whitney.

My mother absolutely loves and accepts me as her gay daughter and also embraces Whitney as her own daughter as well.
Still, I'm sorry Taylor that we were not meant to be. But it turns out we both have great taste in women ;)

15 years later I'm returning the favour and I'm taking my mother to see her non-future son-in-law (& Zac and Ike) this Sunday 8th December in London.

When I gave mother tickets to see Hanson back on her birthday back in June (see this video) she got a bit excited when she saw what grown up Taylor now looks like.

Taylor, perhaps it was my mother after you all along ;)

Hanson, thank you providing such great songs throughout all of my childhood - We look forward to bopping along to your tunes on Sunday, and this time I’ll be giving my mother permission to raise her hands in the air.

Happy Thanksgiving Y'all! 2013

Happy Thanksgiving Y'all!

We can't believe that it is already this time of the year, crazy how fast time is flying by! Unfortunately us Brits do not get the day off to celebrate Thanksgiving, or the next day to recover. Really, I Think all Americans (+ British relatives) should get the days off to truly celebrate ;) I really do feel for Whitney moving to a country that does not celebrate a wonderful day she has celebrated her whole life. Maybe next year we;ll get the day off, but it's not like everyone else will have it off also! I just wish there was at least a Cracker Barrel we could go to to have Thanksgiving dinner!
This year, we are attempting to have Thanksgiving at Wegan Manor on Saturday.. yes.. lord help us all! Instead of stuffing our faces today with Thanksgiving food, we spent the evening shopping for it! We're not quite sure how to tackle the TURKEY yet... I don't think a vegetarian should cook it unless I want my family to die (Whitney can't deal with raw meat either). So I think we may be dropping the Turkey off to Motherships oven ;)
Ocado the supermarket has very kindly sent us a hamper of Thanksgiving treats, so we are very thankful for that in enabling us to get our hands on some true American necessities for the day... Now if only there was a chef that came with the hamper... Thanks Ocado! #ocadaothanksgiving
Hopefully over the years we will evolve the Thanksgiving tradition and mix it with the British culture. It's a day to give thanks and we are so very grateful for the love that we have found in each other, the fact that we have conquered long distance, have a roof over our head and even have a beautiful fur baby as well! Megan has also recently got a new job (within the same company) and is changing career paths into HR, so hooray! Thankful that my Masters in Equality and Diversity can finally be of use!

What are you thankful for this year?

Now... it's time to start getting all the Christmas Decorations out! Not long until Whitney's mother arrives on Xmas Eve, we can't wait! See what we got up to last Xmas with Whitney's mum.
