What's In Your Pocket? Helping Out Long Distance Couples!

Recently we were selected by the comparison website moneysupermarket.com to take part in there blog series 'What's in your pocket?' This has arisen from the feel good factor that can come from finding some extra cash in your pocket. According to their survey, they found that discovering £20 you had left in your pocket is one of lifes "little wins". As an experiment they hijacked a dry cleaners and gave customers £20 they had "found" in their clothes. As you can see from the video- people are pretty pleased to be given money they thought they didn't have.

Money Supermarket wanted to continue this feel good factor by giving bloggers £20 for them to spend on whatever they wanted to. Immediately we wanted to take part and had so many different ideas for what we could do. Ultimately we decided that we didn't want to spend it on ourselves, rather we would want to pay it forward. What better way to do so than to help another long distance couple through Love the Distance Foundation. Having only finally conquered long distance last year, we know the pains of distance and the difficulties that arise from lack of funds preventing you from seeing one another.

Love the Distance Foundation is run by the lovely long distance couple Cydney and Stacy. Here's some more info:

About Love the Distance Foundation:

"We help those who are in a long distance relationship and haven’t yet gotten the opportunity to meet their significant other or simply looking to see them again. We understand that there are many who defame and put down long distance, so we’re here to show our support to those who still believe."
How does it work?
"We have merchandise to help support the distance in between two individuals in love and keep them believing in it. From the merch we sell for the two weeks we are showcasing that couple, we donate money from each sold item to help get one love bird to the other. Once the two weeks is over we send over a gift card of the airline over to the flyee :] and there you have it!"

We think its a fantastic cause and will help so many people! If only it was around when we were doing long distance!
The couple that they are featuring at the moment is Lisa and Sam who do long distance between Germany and New Zealand! They have yet to even meet and we're so excited to help contribute to them finally meeting one another!!
Their story:
"We are Lisa and Sam, a long-distance lesbian couple separated by 11344 miles. We met on tumblr and after a short time we knew that we were perfect for each other. We've been together since 3 months and Lisa plans to fly over in August. Lisa lives in Germany and Sam in New Zealand. Both of us are 20 years old. Sam is in her last her studying Drama & Psychology in Christchurch and Lisa is currently working as Au Pair in Belgium. We have to deal with 12 hours of time difference, which can be very tricky sometimes. Couples like you and a lot of others are showing us that the wait and time is worth it.
You can also find us on tumblr: http://lisandsam.tumblr.com/"

Money Supermarket gave us £20 to spend which equals even more money in dollars- $30! Huzzah!! We therefore spent it on the following merchandise, and all proceeds will go to Lisa & Sam!

We love these super cute tanks with coloured leopard print pockets- What's in your ever so cute leopard print pocket?! ;)

We ordered one pink & white tank and one mint & white tank! Can't wait to wear them!!

Each tank cost $12 with $3 postage equalling a total of $27!

By helping out this fab cause, the lovely Cydney and Stacy have thrown in their Love the Distance bangles for free:

To support the cause and buy snazzy merchandise, visit their shop

As we had $3 (£2.05) left over, we donated this to their donation paypal account.

£20 well spent!!

Not only do we feel good by bringing attention to a great cause and helping a long distance couple- we feel EPIC like Alan! ;)

What would you do if you found £20 in your pocket?

Update on our WEDDING + new look for the blog!

source
To all our dearest Weganers, it is time we updated you about our Wedding AKA Wegging plans.. are you ready?...
wedding-planning
source
There is none.

Not yet anyways. We had planned to get started this year (with Megan's sister helping) with a view of having our wedding next year in 2014. Though we have decided to postpone our wedding until 2015.
Why the extra year?

1) we want it to be the most perfect wedding EVER. We're both very girlie and can't even begin to imagine how over the top we want our wedding to be. This will evidently involve a lot of money. Why therefore rush it to be next year when we can have an extra year saving (now that Whitney is earning too woo!)
2) hopefully by then gay marriage in the UK will definitely be in place. With so many hoops to still jump through- who knows when it will actually be legal. Now that we know gay marriage is a possibility, instead of renewing our vows, this is a big factor to when we want to have our wedding.
So there you have it. Book your diaries now- 2015 is the year!!

In other news, we are having our blog redesigned by the fantastic Bobbi over at Ready to Blog. She has just redesigned Whitney's critiquing blog and we looooove it! So we need some inspiration for the design of WWDN and who better to ask than out followers?! What would you like to see our blog looking like? What do you like and dislike about it now? If you have any blogs/ websites that you think we could take inspiration from- send them our way!
We were also invited to be on Huffingtonpost Live to talk about long distance. Check out our clip at 6.35 minutes! We love the Huffington Post and Megan is so glad that she gets to write for them, so we were more than happy to take part in a discussion near and dear to our hearts.

Yeah they're just too cute!!
If you follow us on Twitter you may have seen that in two weeks time we're meeting up with fellow Brit and American long distance couple Kaelyn & Lucy (whose love story we featured on here). We're super looking forward to finally meeting these girls!
That's it for now. We hope you have a great weekend! We're having a super relaxing one after Whitney's first week of work and Megan's freaky ugly ear infection (you don't want to see!)

What Wegan Did For Valentines!

Bit belated but never the less..
HAPPY VALENTINES DAY!!!
As I'm sure you can expect from Wegan, we love Valentines Day. Its pretty much a holiday made for us with all the love, hearts and romance. Some couples don't care for Valentines day and fair enough if that is you, but that's not us! We show how much we love each other.. a lot.. every day.. and of course we surprise each other a lot with cute little gestures such as cards and flowers. But on Valentines Day you can absolutely celebrate love and all that it means to you. Plus it's nice to see other couples out and about being all lovey dove. We loved spotting all the men heading home with flowers and presents haha. Be nice to see that more often ;) Since we have been doing long distance for four years (as if you didn't know), this was actually only our 2nd we have been able to spend together!
I took the Thursday and Friday off work so that we could relax and truly celebrate, as well as get ourselves ready for Whit's first day at fork on Monday (18th Feb!) On 13th February I surprised Whitney with having flowers and a 'I love you' helium balloon while I was at work.
We go all out ;)
On Thursday, the day it self, we had a nice lie in and opened our cute and personalised presents to one another! Whitney had been excited for a long time to give me hers (so cute, and why she was not the one to propose haha, she could barely contain herself), needless to say the gift did not disappoint. It's the story of Wegan in a unique and quirky way, and I LOVE IT!!

Funnily enough we both gave each other personalised chocolate bars, and Whitney also personalised a bottle of red wine, a slate sign and the frame for her print arrived the next day. I also got Whitney a personalised print that has yet to arrive from America, it plays homage to our LONG distance between Hawaii to the UK with the E.E Cummings poem "I carry your heart" which we love.
There are SO many romantic things to do on Valentines day, and last year we went to Paris. This year however the budget did not allow for a romantic getaway so I planned a day out in London instead.

We have been wanting to go to the Ice Bar for ages (like years) so I booked it as a surprise, and Whitney was very happy!

We were very excited to finally try a bar that was made completely out of ice, including the glass they give you, and you even get to wear a blue cape to keep you warm from the cold. The bar itself is tiny but it was a very fun experience. It was packed full of people, most likely because it was Valentines day and they played very cool music as you got to sip from your ice glass... and take many photo's! haha. You get 40 minutes in there and the time flies by. We'd definitely recommend it as an experience!

We loved wandering around London with love in the air, and we particularly love the South bank with all it's quirkiness plus the views of Big Ben and the London Eye.

We went to Wahaca in the South Bank for dinner. We had been to the one in Soho and had heard that this one is rather cool as it's built from shipping containers and has a great view! We had to wait a while to be seated as they don't take bookings, but we enjoyed margaritas and guacamole and nacho chips as we waited. The food is very yummy and it's a modern take on Mexican street food.

All in all we had a great day in London (one of our favourites) and an absolutely amazing Valentines Day!
What did you get up to for Valentines Day?

Our Lives Are To Change Forever!...

because...

WHITNEY'S GOT A JOB!!!

Yes, Whitney has landed her first ever job in the UK!!!

GO BABY!! WOO!!!!

Whitney has got a job as a Sales Executive and the good thing is it's just 10 minutes drive away from where I work, so I will be dropping her off and picking her up! Aw!! This is Whitney's final transformation in moving her whole world from the USA to the UK for true love!

Now this is why this will change our lives forever (slightly dramatic yes)...

While we did long distance we were both working, but when one of us visited the other evidently it would only be one of us working. This will be the first ever time in our lives of us working together in the same country, at the same time. We've both been in the situation of either being a) the one who has to snooze the alarm and drag ourselves out of bed in the dark and b) the one who gets to remain all snuggled up in bed as they continue their beauty sleep into the late morning. (I miss being the B!!)

We're in for a rude awakening of having to sort out our first ever early morning routine of getting ready together!! In case you didn't know, Wegan are not morning people. We had a taster of what it will be like when Whitney re-joins the working force when she had to go for her second interview. When the alarm went off, not only did I have to wake myself up but also had the drag the wife up. No longer was I having a nice warm shower all by myself.. I was huddled in the cold side of the shower shaving my legs as Whitney rinsed out her shampoo. I was making our coffee and breakfast as Whitney was hogging our makeup mirror I'm used to having all to myself. Luckily we didn't have to fight over the hair dryer and straightener. Then onto Mya the Mini we went. I've never driven to work with my girl sat next to me so it was a good but strange feeling being stuck in traffic when I'm usually bored by myself. At least now I'll have Whitney sat next to me!

We do everything in life side by side though and this is the one thing we have yet to do. We'll still have our morning cuddles (a requirement) but this time we both have to drag ourselves out of bed (hopefully making it easier knowing one of us is not staying in bed). I can finally put the bedroom light on and actually see myself in the full length mirror. I won't have to sit eating my breakfast by myself, and I can get to actually see my wife in the morning instead of a quick kiss goodbye. There will though no doubt be some girlie arguing over who gets to wears what work clothes and rushing to make sure we both make it out on time.

It's strange to think that my girl will be working in the UK with British people.. I feel like an over protective mother dropping her precious kid off at school.. I'm going to miss her so much. I'm used to knowing that if I ever need her then I can text or call and she will answer. Whilst Whitney has been off she's transformed our house into a home. The days of having a housewife are now sadly over... we'll be returning to the house just the way we left it in the early morning rush.

So yes.. things are going to change.

On 18th February it's time to wake up and smell the coffee- Wegan are taking the last final step into the real world! It's time for Whitney to bring home the 'Bacon'.

(& I may.. just may.. film my attempts at waking Whitney up her first week of work.. I've got a fight on my hands haha!)

Calling All Femme Lesbians! A Night Just For YOU!

Calling All Femmes!

Ever dreamt of a night out where you didn't have to endure the stare of a heterosexual man, or wonder if a feminine girl at a gay bar is straight or into the ladies? Well, get your glad rags ready for next Saturday when the group 'Stilettos' launch on 9th February in London. Not only is this a place to possibly meet your future wife, it is also a time for you to meet like minded lesbians and to no longer feel like the only femme in the world. We think it is a fantastic idea and much needed for the femme lesbian community! Hurray for Femme Visibility!

Where: Cos Bar- 148 Queen Victoria Street, City of London, EC4V 4BY (closest tube Blackfriars)
When: Saturday 9 February from 9pm-2am
By: Stilettos
source
Movie star Victoria Broom is backing the campaign saying:

"Feminine bi and gay women can feel excluded in gay bars, because they look straight, and straight men hit on them due to the way they dress. They need a place to meet and interact with similar women. Stilettos will break down the fear barrier and allow these women to interact in a safe environment.”

Femme lesbians will takeover an entire floor at one of London’s most popular lesbian nights, Bijou: The Cocktail Social for Gay Women.

While this is a chance to dress up and show off your feminine side, stilettos are not obligatory, as spokeswoman for Stillettos states: “We’re also about fun, and our tongue-in-cheek name reflects that – but even femmes wear flats!”
Don't forget!
Stilettos@Bijouis on Saturday 9 February from 9pm-2am at Cos Bar (Queen St) - 10 pound door entry includes ‘free entry’ to Stilettos.
