Here's Why You Have To Stay At Marina Del Rey If You're Traveling To Or From LAX

marina del rey

We had the absolute pleasure of having a short stay at Marina Del Rey when we were flying back to London and had a layover in LA for one night only.   It was so great to have another (relaxing) adventure in LA without all the hustle and bustle before we headed back to London. Before we've made the mistake of staying at a hotel right next to LAX when we had a flight the next morning, and now we know we definitely would head straight to Marina Del Rey!

Marina Del Rey is located in the heart of the Los Angeles coastline and only 4 miles from LAX. It takes about 15/ 20 minutes by car and is quicker to reach Marina Del Rey than downtown LA! It is a gorgeous marina with sand, yachts, stand-up paddleboarders, kayaking, jet ski-ers and more. There's so much to do or you can just opt for a spa day or a leisurely bike ride on their coastal bike trail. The Marina also offers year-round outdoor dining at many waterfront restaurants and even brunch cruises in the scenic harbor. The Marina’s has six waterfront hotels, all of which offer sparkling water views. So why would you opt to stare at concrete the day before your flight? (Though you may want to stay a few days as it's so relaxing).

Where to Stay:

Jamaica Bay Inn:

We loved our stay at Jamaica Bay Inn. The hotel has a great nautical feel with most beautiful view of the marina and inviting sand just steps away. We were given the largest room on site and it was HUGE with a corridor from the bathroom to the bedroom and circular window bay. giving you great views. When we arrived, the Marina was misty (which often happens) but it was blue and sunny skies the very next day.

The hotel only has 111 guest rooms and suites with a beachfront pool so it has a great feel to it and not too busy. Rental bikes, kayaks, and paddleboards are available also available.

Where to Eat:

Beachside- on-site restaurant at Jamaica Bay Inn:

Jamaica Bay Inn's on-site  restaurant, Beachside, was so delicious for lunch and breakfast. We didn't have their dinner, but I'm sure it was great. With a recent complete renovation, the hotel’s Beachside Restaurant & Bar overlooks the water and offers a great sunset view with a delicious California contemporary menu and daily happy hour specials.

Cast and Plow at the Ritz Carlton- Marina Del Rey:

We absolutely loved this Ritz Carlton restaurant that is situated by the Marina. We were taken to Cast and Plow by the lovely Kendra from Visit Marina Del Rey. We sat outside with the view of the marina, and tables with their own fire pits. It has such a gorgeous atmosphere and ambiance, with great food and cocktails!
