We can't believe it, but the say has finally come in Hawaii to say a big ALOHAAAA to marriage equality!! Same-sex marriage has passed the final reading at the Senate, and Governor Abercrombie to signed it into action. We watched it live from Hawaii and it was such a beautiful signing ceremony, it brought us to tears quite a few times!
You'll start seeing gay weddings in Hawaii from 2nd December! This has made Hawaii the 15th (or 16th) state to legalize gay marriage! So much has changed since Whitney was living there. Now that DOMA has been repealed, and gay marriage is legal in Hawaii, this means we can finally move back!! We always hoped to move back for a couple of years before we settle down to have children, and now it's finally a reality that can happen! So we best get planing the Wedding in the UK for 2015, and a beach wedding in Hawaii one day soon!! We are very happy girls!
MAHALO HAWAII!!
Here's what Barack Obama had to say.. we love him!
I want to congratulate the Hawaii State Legislature on passing legislation in support of marriage equality. With today’s vote, Hawaii joins a growing number of states that recognize that our gay and lesbian brothers and sisters should be treated fairly and equally under the law. Whenever freedom and equality are affirmed, our country becomes stronger. By giving loving gay and lesbian couples the right to marry if they choose, Hawaii exemplifies the values we hold dear as a nation. I’ve always been proud to have been born in Hawaii, and today’s vote makes me even prouder. And Michelle and I extend our best wishes to all those in Hawaii whose families will now be now given the security and respect they deserve
I wrote about the subject of what marriage equality would mean to be for Policy Mic, please do have a read!
