We know y'all dying to hear how the Wegan proposal went down. Thank you all for your congratulations and sweet comments & emails. We've told it from each point of view, starting with the 'Proposer' Megan.

The Plan:

Seeing as I was the one to propose, we thought that we would tell ‘the proposal’ from my point of view first. Going out to Hawaii in March, I had not planned to be leaving an engaged woman! Whitney & I often talked about getting ‘married’ one day, and Whitney pretty much brought up most days that she wants to get engaged so bad haha. She often sang to me the line “I think I want to marry you” from Bruno Mar’s song. Originally I had thought about proposing in Paris later this year, as we had planned to go for our three year anniversary. However this just didn’t feel right. The more time we spent in Hawaii, the more I realised that it is the only perfect place to do the proposal. One day, whilst driving around in Hawaii it suddenly dawned on me that we are clearly ready and love each other more than anything and that I would propose in a mere few weeks time. Meanwhile Whitney often mentioned about getting engaged and I kept down playing it to not be for another year or so until we have our finances in place. I wanted so desperately to talk to my sister about my plans before she came out to Hawaii, but it was impossible to get any time alone to skype or even facebook her without Whitney knowing something was up (we’re pretty much glued at the hip.. arm, leg and pretty much every other body part lol).

Once my sister and her boyfriend were out here I managed to tell them I planned to propose in their last week and they were of course very thrilled for me. My sister already thought of Whitney as a sister and part of the family, so it was even more poignant to have some of my family out there with me. As the weeks went on we kept having sneakily quick conversations in whispers. It is very hard to get anything around Whitney- she warned me she ruins surprises and so I kept saying to her how can I ever propose to you then (meanwhile laughing to myself).

The Ring:

Getting the ring seemed like an impossible task. Whilst Hawaii was the perfect location for the proposal, due to giving up work to be out in Hawaii, there was no way I could buy a gorgeous bling bling engagement ring. Instead I decided I wanted a temporary engagement ring but one that she could still keep forever; it therefore had to be Hawaiian! One day we went to Ala Moana (the biggest outdoor shopping mall), & whilst the girls went to Forever 21, Harry pretended he wanted to go off to look at ‘boy stuff’. He ran to the jewellery store Na Hoku and explained my situation to the sales lady. She immediately found the perfect rings that represent love and commitment and made in Hawaii. When buying my purchase at Forever 21, Harry quickly updated me on the situation. We then pretended we needed to go to the restroom and that Lauren & Whitney should meanwhile have a coffee (Lauren first of all did not get the hint and said she also needed to go until we insisted they should stay haha).

We ran back to Na Hoku and I chose a beautiful gold ring that has two Hawaiian plumeria flowers on it. The two flowers represent two people, whilst the petals represent notions of loyalty, respect, sincerity etc. All in all, we thought we had managed to be pretty sneaky and get away without Whitney realising. However later that night it became apparent Whitney thought that something was up, so I pretended she was ruining a graduation/ early birthday surprise. Thankfully she bought this and it also worked in our favour so that she would not try to find out what was going on if we appeared to be suspicious.

The Location:

I immediately knew that it had to be done at our favourite beach, Waimanalo. Furtermore, that it had to be under the hut that often characterised the beach for us and made it even that more beautiful. The problem is, Waimanalo is 20 minutes away and Whitney is our only form of transportation. I didn’t want to inform too many people of the plan incase anyone slipped up. Ultimately I decided that Kevin, one of Whitney’s most loyal friends since she arrived on the island in 2006, would be the best person to ask to take us there and also be a part of it. Shortly after this decision we all spent the day together at Lani Kai, and Harry had been tasked to talk to Kevin about it seeing as they had a bromance going on and Whitney wouldn’t think twice if they were seen to be in a one-to-one convo. I got the hint that it had been agreed and all plans were getting set in motion.

Before I knew it, the day of the proposal had already arrived. The last plans to set in motion were to gather the champagne, lei’s and flowers to decorate the setting. I told Whitney that I wanted to do an hour or so of studying on my Dissertation and so she dropped me off at Starbucks none the wiser.

Once there I wrote 5 cards with instructions on what Whitney would later have to follow in a sort of treasure hunt way to find me. Once I had everything I needed, we all went home and I promptly demanded we needed to get ourselves ready. My dress that I was going to wear was already up in the room my sister & boyfriend were staying in. I did my hair and makeup, grabbed my bag andwas about to tell Whitney to stay put and not follow me when she laughs & says “you look so funny like you’re ready to leave” to which I replied “in fact I am, stay here until I text you.” The look on Whitney’s confused face was hilarious!! I raced up to the room, quickly got changed and met Lauren & Harry outside who had gathered the other supplies (i.e. cutting some pretty flowers from around the complex and neighbours trees haha). We literally ran to Kevin’s car in fear that Whitney would come charging out the door to find out what was going on. However Whitney was a good girl and followed all the instructions to the T. As we drove to the beach and started to set up, Whitney opened the instructions whereby they told her what to wear, to do her nails, to go see our favourite Starbucks (where I had instructed our lovely barista friend to make her favourite coffee and write a little note on the cup), from there she took in the scenery at the marina (as instructed), until she opened the final card where it told her where I would be waiting.

Meanwhile we had set up the hut and it looked better than I could have hoped for. Lauren, Harry, Kevin & his girlfriend then went to hide behind some bushes (all rather comical looking like Wegan paparazzi) in order to film us secretively.

The Proposal:

It seemed like an eternity as I waited for Whitney to arrive. I kept re-reading what I had planned to say and was feeling relatively nervous and having to pull it all off. Whitney eventually arrived and looked more beautiful than ever. She was rather shocked when I beckoned her to stand under the hut with me, she still had her mobile and keys in her hand until I took them away! I then took her hands and got down on one knee. Realising that I truly was proposing, Whitney immediately started to cry happy tears and it took a lot to stop myself from shedding tears too and get the words out. Of course Whitney said that she would marry me and stood there in shock and awe as I opened the box and put the ring on her finger. We immediately embraced each other and sealed it with a kiss. We were now officially engaged!

The others came over to congratulate us and we opened the bottle of rose champagne and were presented with the pink and white lei’s. It was truly the happiest moment in both our lives and the best decision I had ever made. Afterwards we went to our favourite restaurant, Blue Water Grill, where we always celebrate our anniversaries.

May 17 started out like any other ordinary day, I had no idea what was coming my way. I kept joking with Megan practically every day telling her how I can’t wait to get engaged and would (attempt) to sing Bruno Mars “Oooh baby, I think (inevitably) I wanna marry youuu” ALL THE TIME. It was all jokes and laughs as I never thought I was going to be engaged so soon. I originally thought Megan would be cliché and propose in Paris, as we are going there in October in celebration of our 3 YEAR ANNIVERSARY! I was convinced I would have a Paris proposal…come to my pleasant surprise that was not the case!

Megan was acting herself all day and by no means did I have any suspicion she would soon be getting down on one knee and asking me to be her wife to be! .However, I did notice she was rushing me to get in the shower and to get ready for dinner at our favorite restaurant-Blue Water Grill. I am always down for a tasty meal, and when food is my motive, I can be ready rather quickly. Megan was in high fledge quick mode and was ready extremely quick. It became apparent to me that something was up when Megan was in her underwear and bra with her sunglasses on top of her head and bag in hand ready to go. I joked and said, “Haha it looks like you are all ready to go.” She looked at me and said, “Actually, I have to go, stay here and do not come out of this room until I text you” and she then took off. I was like major hmmmmmm. I was a good girl and did what she told me.

Megan’s Instructions

I continued to get ready anxiously awaiting to hear from Megan. Finally, 15 minutes later I receive her text where I was told to go upstairs to Lauren and Harry’s room. I immediately trucked it up there expecting to at least find one of them. Nope, rather I found 5 cards numbered 1-5 with very distinct instructions that I had to follow. I opened up the first card where I was instructed to get ready, put on my light pink new dress, paint my nails, and look my very best. I was not allowed to open card #2 until I was all ready to go. I was feeling so excited and out of the loop with what was going on I practically ripped open the second card as I could not contain my level of excitement.

After I finally read the card, I was instructed to go to our favorite starbucks where I would be greeted by one of our favorite baristas, Kivan. You see, at this point I thought to myself it MUST be some sort of early Birthday/Graduation party. Feeling excited, I hopped in my car and was on my merry way to Starbucks. Once I arrived, I immediately went to see Kivan where he had a coconut latte, customized to a love theme, in hand. I graciously took my latte and was then instructed to go sit by the marina. At this point I expected to see people there; I thought it was perhaps a surprise party on the marina. Though, I was greeted my no one apart from the sun making its way to set and the beautiful blue ocean. I sat down, took in the pretty scenery and sipped my latte. After I finished I opened the final card, which told me to get in my car and head to our favorite beach, Waimanalo, where Megan will be waiting in the hut. I did think that there was a slight chance she could be proposing, but I instantly dismissed the thought, as I didn’t think there was any way for this to happen. I got in my car and basically floored it to Waimanalo. I was seriously wondering what in the world does Megan have planned?!

Upon Arrival:

I arrived at the beach in about 20 minutes time, gave myself a quick look and powdered my nose. I then began to make my way towards the hut. I could see Megan in the distance standing in it looking so stunning. I was greeted by my beautiful girl, told where to stand and before I knew it she was coming out with very beautiful, touching words. The next thing I knew, she dropped to her knee, where she said those beautiful words I had been long anticipating for, “Will you marry me?” I was immediately taken over by emotion and began to cry happy tears. It was the most pivotal and happiest moment of my entire life. I of course, said YES!!!! We instantly embraced one another and shared our first hug as fiancés!

I then looked over to my right and found Lauren, Harry, Kevin and Ghen in the bushes where they captured the beautiful moment on film! It was our mini paparazzi crew. We had a little celebration and popped open a bottle of rose champagne and relished the moment, as it was the best moment of my life. I feel so lucky to be engaged to the most amazing, beautiful, wonderful, girl in the world. I cannot wait for what life has in store for Wegan!

The Future Plan:
